About Me

The story of my business starts back in 1997, when I walked into a bookstore to get a better understanding of the Internet. At the time, I was in the Air Force, and knew I didn’t want to work for a huge organization and be a cog in a massive, bureaucratic machine. I figured if I could figure out how this new medium worked, I might be able to start a business with it.

I picked up a book called “Teach Yourself CGI Programming In A Week”, and proceeded to power through basic programs built in a language called Perl. From there, I worked with the man who would become by business partner for the next 15 years to build a searchable database of fine art. That company eventually folded, but the lessons we learned took us to our next ventures.

Not every idea we had came to fruition, but each try brought us closer to the platform that evolved into GreenRope, our flagship CRM and marketing automation platform. In 2008, I had the idea to create a platform from scratch that would address the real needs of businesses - integrating information together in a useful, actionable way. That idea is what fueled the development of GreenRope.

After working with hundreds of businesses, listening to their challenges, and watching the market, I saw a common theme. Businesses all struggle with managing the information they gather. Sales, marketing, customer service, events, HR, and others all usually have their own software, creating and storing their own data, and often causing a tangled web of applications and reports. If we could solve this problem, we could revolutionize the way business operates.

Creating GreenRope was by no means easy. Building a broad platform requires expertise in many different kinds of use cases. Adoption is also challenging, as people tend to gravitate toward the software they know best, and search for “best of breed”, even if they use 10% of that software’s capability.

GreenRope was built on the concept of Complete CRM. Complete CRM is a single platform that can consolidate and simplify every aspect of a business’s sales, marketing, customer service, events, onboarding, and more. The key is saving businesses from having to integrate all that information, since a single platform would have all those connections built in. We found we could save over 90% cost and time required to implement a CRM just by removing the cost of integration.

Today, GreenRope is an ever-evolving, ever-improving system that is built around meeting the specific needs of our customers. We are focused on providing the world’s best customer service, combined with the most stable, powerful, and broad capability of any CRM on the market. GreenRope is in use by hundreds of businesses in over 40 countries, from solopreneurs to large organizations.

I am proud of what our small team has accomplished. Being entirely bootstrapped has been a challenging feat, as we compete head-to-head with companies like Salesforce, Oracle, Microsoft, and Hubspot. Despite those companies having received tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in funding, we continue to grow and provide better value to our customers. This didn’t happen by accident. Our dedication to serving our customers is what sets us apart, and what fuels us.

The Official Bio

I started in the Internet Marketing space in 2000, when I co-founded one of the world's first email service providers, CoolerEmail. As a pioneer in responsible email marketing, we grew CoolerEmail into a global software company specializing in marketing communication with over 1,500 clients. In 2010, after spending several years designing and implementing a more comprehensive way to meet the needs of small and mid-sized businesses, I launched GreenRope, a cloud-based platform that simplifies and consolidates a company's sales, marketing, and operations. GreenRope currently provides technology solutions to over 3,000 companies worldwide.

My favorite CRM-related mantra is, “If it isn’t in the CRM, it didn’t happen.” My goal is for you to adopt this far-reaching data-driven, inclusive approach to running your business, too.

I earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and an MBA from the Robert Anderson School at the University of New Mexico.

After graduating, I served in the United States Air Force for 4 years, working in the Air Force's space test program, Air Force Research Laboratory, and Ballistic Missile Defense Organization.

A few things I enjoy: Travel, stand-up paddleboarding, mountain biking, and ice hockey, and I like to practice yoga whenever the forces of the universe align and I can step away from developing or programming something new.
